This project involved the extensive remodel and renovation of an existing hip-roof captain style home in Wellfleet. The main floor living spaces were separated by walls and doors and the kitchen was small and outdated. A spiral staircase to an attic look-out was centered in an otherwise empty hallway. The Clients wanted an open, fresh Scandinavian style interior living area suited to accommodating both large family gatherings and the quieter times when it was just the two of them.

The main living space, was the primary focus and now includes an expanded kitchen, living room, dining area, master bedroom and den/guest room. Walls were removed, creating a graceful flow between and through the spaces. The spiral staircase is now a sculptural feature of the open plan, as is the 4-sided built-in column of shelves – an attractive and functional solution structural support lost when the walls were removed.

The new kitchen is both beautiful and functional, features concrete counters and backsplash, and was enlarged by reclaiming a small porch. We replaced windows with two sliding glass doors and added a new custom concrete-faced fireplace providing more light, connection to the outdoors and a focal point for the living room.

A new deck extends across the house, expanding the living space to include the outdoors and reorienting the house to the upper main living level. The house has 2 levels, with the lowest serving as guest bedroom space. For now, this area was simply refreshed with new doors, trim, flooring, and paint.

We worked with our clients to select the furnishings for the remodeled space. The color palette is warm and light and creates a casual, comfortable space for gathering and relaxing. The peninsula sectional sofa creates a perfect added seating area connecting the living room and the kitchen.
